CARAT
A Carat (unlike Karat which denotes the purity of gold) is a unit of measurement, used to weight diamonds.
1 carat (CT) is equivalent to 0.2 grams. In essence, divide a carat weight by 5 to get the weight in grams.

Naturally large diamonds are rare, so a single one-carat diamond will always be worth more than two half-carat diamonds of the same colour, clarity and cut.

Each carat contains 100 points. In that case, a 0.5 carat stone has 50 points, and a 0.33 carat (third of a carat) stone contains 33 points.

RELATIVE CARAT / SIZE COMPARISON FOR DIAMOND
"Carat" is a measurement of "weight", not "size" thus the overall diameter (mm) of a diamond could vary slightly - larger or smaller - even though the carat weight is correct.

CT. 0.25 0.50 0.75 1.00 1.25 1.50 2.00 2.50 3.00
MM. 4.0 5.0 6.0 6.5 7.0 7.5 8.0 8.5 9.0
The above illustration is not to scale. Diamonds sizes are shown for comparison purposes only.
